Women's self-defense classes in Dubai at DKing Combat are taught at Max Burn Gym, Al Quoz 3, and start with awareness and boundary-setting before any physical technique. Sessions are private, semi-private or small-group, beginner-friendly, and never use fear as a teaching tool. Entry is a refundable AED 100 assessment.
Less shouting than you are expecting, and far more talking. A first session at DKing is an assessment rather than a class: one coach, an hour, a conversation about what you want and an honest look at your starting point. Most women describe the goal in the same way — not "I want to fight", but "I want to feel calmer walking to my car."
The physical part of that first hour is deliberately light. Stance, how to create distance, how to break a wrist grip. The point is not to teach you everything; it is to show you that you can do this. The sentence we hear most at the end is that it was nothing like what they pictured.
What you will not find here is fear as a teaching tool. Training built on frightening people produces anxious students who freeze. We train the opposite: awareness, options, and enough repetition that the response is calm rather than panicked.
No to both, and this is the single most common reason women delay starting. We have begun programs with members who had not exercised since university and with members who run marathons. The curriculum is the same; the pacing is not.
Fitness arrives as a by-product. Nothing in the first month requires you to be strong, fast or flexible. If you carry an injury, tell us at the assessment and the program is rebuilt around it rather than you being told to sit out.
The progression is deliberate. Physical technique comes third, not first, because the skills that prevent trouble matter more than the ones that end it.
That assumption is the entire design premise, not an afterthought. Every technique we teach women assumes the other person is heavier and stronger — otherwise it would be useless. So the system leans on leverage, angles, vulnerable targets and surprise rather than on matching force.
The honest caveat: no training guarantees an outcome, and anyone promising that is selling something. What training reliably changes is the speed of your reaction, the quality of your decisions under adrenaline, and how early you notice that something is off — which is usually where the situation is actually decided.
Both formats exist. Private and semi-private sessions are one-to-one or with people you bring yourself — a friend, a sister, a colleague — which is how most women start. Small mixed groups are also available once you are comfortable, and many members eventually prefer them, because practising with a training partner who is genuinely larger is useful preparation.
You are never put into mixed partner work before you want it. That decision stays yours throughout.
Group self-defense sessions in Dubai generally run 150–400 AED, and private coaching 400–900 AED. The spread reflects location, group size and whether assessment and equipment are included.
At DKing Combat everyone starts with a refundable AED 100 assessment — one hour with a coach, returned when you begin training. We work by application and keep groups deliberately small, so the assessment is a genuine two-way fit check. Current rates are on the pricing page.
A fitness striking class trains your conditioning against a pad that does not move, resist or grab you. It is good training and it will make you fitter, but it is a workout, not preparation.
Self-defense work starts before contact — awareness, positioning, voice — and the physical material is built around the situations that actually occur: being grabbed from behind, being backed into a corner, having a wrist held. If you want both, plenty of members combine this with kickboxing or combat fitness. If you want the deeper system behind it, that is Krav Maga.
Sessions are led by DKing Saad, who has taught self-defense and martial arts for more than twenty years and founded the DKing Combat System — a single hybrid curriculum drawing on Krav Maga, boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ and Arnis rather than separate disconnected classes. Coaching is direct, patient and free of theatre.
Book the assessment. We train at Max Burn Gym, Al Quoz 3, Street 4, Warehouse #10 — minutes from Sheikh Zayed Road and easy to reach from Business Bay, DIFC and Dubai Marina. Bring water and clothes you can move in; everything else is provided.
