Khalid, 34, startup founder, Dubai. Built a company. Needed somewhere to put the pressure.
Khalid had been running his startup for three years when the sleeping problem started. Not insomnia — he went to bed, he lay down, he just couldn't stop the company from running in his head. Revenue projections. Hiring decisions. The pitch deck. At 2am. At 4am.
He tried everything that looks good in a CEO's wellness routine: meditation app (eleven days), cold showers (six), therapy (ongoing, helpful with some things, not this). None of it interrupted the loop.
His therapist suggested it. Something that required his full attention — not just his physical presence. Something that couldn't be done while simultaneously running the company in his head. She was right. The first session at DKing Combat was the first hour in eight months where the company genuinely hadn't been running in the background. The technical demands of the training were specific enough that there was no space for anything else.
"My brain is always solving something. For the first time in months, it had only one problem. The relief was physical."
He started sleeping through. Not because training tired him out — though it did — but because his nervous system had somewhere to put the accumulated pressure that had been building with nowhere to go. Two sessions a week at Max Burn Gym, Al Quoz 3, became non-negotiable. He stopped thinking of it as self-care and started thinking of it as infrastructure.
Nothing changed about the job. He still makes difficult decisions and thinks about the company constantly during the day. The difference is that now it stops when he needs it to. The training gave him a circuit-breaker he didn't know he was missing.
"Someone asked me recently if I meditate. I said I train. It's the same thing, but for people whose brain doesn't respond to sitting still."
He trains at DKing Combat, Max Burn Gym, Al Quoz 3. He refers other founders quietly — the way you refer people to something you're protective of.
DKing Combat System is application-only training at Max Burn Gym, Al Quoz 3, Dubai.
