Quick Answer
This page answers detailed questions about each discipline taught at DKing Combat in Al Quoz, Dubai, Arnis (Eskrima/Kali), Krav Maga, Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, and Sanda, covering what each one trains, who it suits, and how classes are structured.
Arnis (Eskrima/Kali)
What is Arnis?
Arnis, also known as Eskrima or Kali, is the official national martial art and sport of the Philippines, recognised under Republic Act No. 9850. It's built around weapon-based technique, primarily stick work, alongside empty-hand application.
Is Arnis the same as Eskrima and Kali?
Yes, they refer to the same family of Filipino Martial Arts, with naming differences largely regional across the Philippines.
Do I need experience to start Arnis?
No. Most students begin with zero stick or weapons experience. The first class focuses on grip, stance, and basic striking angles at a beginner-friendly pace.
How often do Arnis classes run at DKing Combat?
Group Arnis classes run every Sunday, capped at 10 students, with full-day access to Max Burn Gym included.
Are private Arnis lessons available?
Yes, private lessons are available as a 10-session package for students who want faster or more personalised progress.
What does Arnis training actually build?
Hand-eye coordination, ambidexterity, reaction speed, footwork, and focus under pressure, alongside weapon awareness and empty-hand technique.
Krav Maga
What is Krav Maga?
A self-defense system built for fast, instinctive responses to real-world violence, grabs, chokes, and weapon threats, originally developed for military use.
Is Krav Maga a sport with competitions?
No. Krav Maga has no rules, scoring, or competition format. It's built specifically for genuine self-defense scenarios.
What happens in the first 90 days of Krav Maga training?
Early weeks focus on stance, movement, and basic striking fundamentals. Weeks four through seven introduce escapes and grip defense. The final stretch adds realistic, scenario-based pressure training.
How much does Krav Maga training cost?
A single private session is AED 450. A private 10-session package is AED 3,500. Semi-private and small group options are available on request.
Boxing
Is boxing taught as its own class at DKing Combat?
Boxing is layered into the same training progression as the rest of the system, building the striking foundation, footwork, and composure under pressure that supports every other discipline.
Do I need to spar in boxing training?
Sparring is introduced gradually and matched to experience level. Nobody is placed into hard sparring as a beginner.
What does boxing training actually build?
Distance management, composure under incoming pressure, hand speed and accuracy, and footwork that carries into every other discipline trained.
Muay Thai
What makes Muay Thai different from boxing?
Muay Thai trains close-range striking and clinch control, including knees and elbows, a range distinct from boxing's striking-at-distance focus.
Do I need to be fit to start Muay Thai?
No. Conditioning builds through training itself. Every student starts with an assessment so the program matches their actual starting point.
BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)
What does BJJ training focus on at DKing Combat?
Positional awareness, escapes, and control, the skills needed to survive and navigate a confrontation that goes to the ground.
Is BJJ safe for beginners with no grappling background?
Yes. Most students start with zero ground experience. Technique, not raw strength, is the actual foundation of BJJ.
Do I need to compete in BJJ?
No. Training focuses on practical application rather than competition preparation.
Sanda (Chinese Kickboxing)
What is Sanda?
Sanda, also called Sanshou or Chinese kickboxing, is a full-contact combat sport combining striking, kicks, and takedowns in one continuous exchange, developed as the practical application of traditional Wushu.
How is Sanda different from other striking arts?
Sanda formally includes throws and takedowns within its striking ruleset, a combination most striking sports don't include directly.
Who does Sanda training suit?
Students who enjoy dynamic, continuous exchange, as well as complete beginners who want to build striking and balance together from the start.
General Discipline Questions
Can I train more than one discipline at DKing Combat?
Yes. All disciplines are taught as one connected system, not separate standalone classes, so students naturally train across multiple areas as part of a single program.
Which discipline should a complete beginner start with?
Every student starts with an application and a refundable assessment session, where training is scoped to individual goals and experience rather than a single fixed starting point.
How do I start training in any of these disciplines?
